The CPU is an i9-9900k, so it's pretty difficult to imagine maxing it out without something pretty weird going on, which would probably create some other (more sinister?) problem, and otherwise the system seems to be running OK. I thought this might somehow be happening, so I tried some recordings where all I was running was OBS and some random background processes, then played back the recording with VLC player.

No, the CPU definitely isn't spiking (verified by Windows task manager and resource monitor). That's not a common cause, but it's possible. Your CPU isn't spiking, is it? If getting rid of the hub doesn't help, it could be either the USB bus getting overloaded (it just uses a few PCIe lanes) or the CPU spiking to where it can't do the decoding in real-time. You may need to use an ASIO driver for that.

One other thing that sometimes causes weirdness on Windows is the general driver you're using in whatever recording/playback software you're using. However it has always been plugged directly into the motherboard. My AG-03 has never been plugged into a 2.0 port and has never demonstrated the issue you're describing. My money is on the hub, not the 3.1 port. My only guess is that it's because I have the AG-06 plugged into a USB hub? But that was the case with the old computer as well, and it was never a problem (the hub doesn't have anything plugged into it that would take up much bandwidth I have a keyboard and mouse plugged in). And if I switch the audio to another soundcard (like my Schiit Fulla), I don't hear it at all.Īny ideas about why this might be happening? It literally never happened with my old computer, but it's happening every 15-20 seconds with my new computer (lasting about 2-4 seconds when it does happen). If I listen to a clip, the distortion might not happen at all, or it might happen at a different location. It's just something weird happening when I listen to the playback through the AG-06. I got a little insight when I kept listening to recorded material, and I realized that the distortion isn't actually in the recording at all.

It happened at volume levels way below clipping threshold, and there didn't seem to be any pattern to when it happened. This was really confusing to me for a while because I kept trying to figure out what was causing it. I don't hear it while monitoring a recording.

My biggest problem is that I'm getting a weird and inconsistent distortion/static when I play back audio. It's been working great, but then I switched to a new computer, and when I started recording stuff I've been having all sorts of problems. I've been using a Yamaha AG-06 mixer for video recording projects.
